What is required to make mplayer build with "-vo fbdev" support? I'm trying to get this to work on a PVR350 card with ivtv, and supposedly the fbdev should be better, though with the X driver found here I'm not sure that's the case, since maybe it provides accelerated xv?

Tried
Code:
emerge -pv mplayer

I don't know anything about PVR, but my mplayer is compiled with +fbcon and +directfb...

Forgive me if this a newbie mistake, but isn't fbcon for running mplayer on a framebuffer console? Not sure about directfb...

I want mplayer to run using fbdev in X... possible, or just a misunderstanding on my part?

DirectFB provides an abstraction layer of sorts to make it easier for people to make programs that run on the framebuffer, e.g. without X.

So no, running mplayer using fbdev in X is not possible.
