after starting X my console wents black until reboot

hi folks,

i'm using framebuffer for my shell (1280x1024).
after starting x (xdm / gdm - with nvidia driver and resolution 1400X1050 laptop size) my console goes blank and i can't use it anymore. from now on i am only able to use X. switching to any vc results in a black screen until switching back to x. also after stopping x the console stays blank. keyboard still works, i'm able to execute the shutdown-command.

haven't found any useful thread in this forum...

any ideas how to keep the console working?
please tell me if you need further infomation

this is all over the place. you are most likely using Riva TNT framebuffer support in your kernel. completely disable it and use VESA fb support instead.
