UT2004 Retail was released today. Does anyone have it yet? Also have they ended up giving discounts to those who bought UT2003?

There is a ten dollar mail in rebate for those who have purchased ut2k3 included with the game.

I have it pre-ordered, but in the UK we have to wait until the 19th  .. I still can't wait though, I've played the demo to death and want all the maps/vehicles/weapons.

I bought it on Sunday, I think the store sold it too me too early. Unfortunately it crashes occasionally and it has pretty poor performance. There's probably some tweaking that I can do.

I pre-ordered the special edition from Amazon.ca but since I placed the order, the special edition disappeared from their website, but still shows up in my order.. fishy. I just hope I'll get it on dvd, I am not interested in 6 cds...

If these people dont mention it's shipped by tonight I am storming a store to get a copy dammit!

I ordered my SE from gamestop.com and after (seemingly) endless screwups about the shipping (they said it shipped last Thur.) it should be here within 3 hours. :D

I think the Special Edition is fairly close to sold out and retailers have stopped taking additional orders. I'm sure you'll get the DVDs, just like me.

I hope it will contain a linux installer with an upgrade option so that my 987 maps will work under ut2004 too, as they have promised it

Whoohoo. I just bought it. Had to drive around to a few stores to get it though. There's no special edition in the stores, so I just got the regular version. Its on 6 cds 8O, and the install takes about 5gigs. Gonna play in about 20 minutes.

I got the special edition for the same price as the regular ($39.99), and that all comes on one dvd, much better. But...i installed it fine, and then when i goto start it the splash screen comes up....and then goes away. And nothing else happens. It's being shown as running, but...it's not! I can't figure it out! Arg.

yeah. The special edition was on a dvd, but i think they are pretty much sold out. 5 of em are install disks, and 1 is a play disk. But it seems like you don't need the play disk at all. Awesome game though.

Just for the record. Does the 6CD release (or DVD release) contain a linux installer?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just looked at linuxgames.com and the first thing I see is a screenshot of the UT2k4 linux installer, wohooo :P

What is on the "Special Edition" version besides just being a dvd instead of 6 cd's anyway?

6 CD's? omfg i gota get a DVD-rom already.

Thats insane, I mean it better have lotsa videos with it for that size. But at 100+ maps its almost justified. 100 maps... could never play them all.

Developers have to invest in compression tho, just because they can make games huge, doesn't mean they should. 5gbs means i can install maybe 10 games tops. Where N64 had games that were as little as 8MB, that had better graphics, sounds, everything then tons of playstation games that took 4 CD's.

Getting the game tomorow, guess it's time to delete some junk.

yeah, 5.5GB is way too much. And I thought UT2003 was bad requiring 3.5GB...

I just picked up a copy at Best Buy today. Had it on sale for only $30. Very sweet deal. The box even mentions that Linux support is included (unlike UT2003), although it says technical support is not provided for Linux. Fair enough, as long as I get to play the game...

However, I can't get the damn thing installed! It keeps failing with this, on Disc 2:
Code:
UZ2: Failed to fully write [/opt/ut2004//Textures/CavernTextures.utx]!
./setup.sh: line 262: 18704 Aborted                 "$setup" "$@"

Has anyone else seen this? How can I get around it? I've tried multiple times, and it keeps failing at this point. WTF?

Damnit! I'm getting errors already. Got it installed, but every once in a while it just crashes for no reason. I had no such problems with the demo. Where can I file a bug report? Heres the error

Why is everyone (almost everyone) complaining about that the game takes up 5,5 GB of space? Today harddrives are so cheap, and they are making em larger and larger, capacity wise :) I mean I don't know anyone that has a harddrive that is less than 60 GB

Anyway, I am not ranting here, just thinking out loud I guess. If you have to complain on something then I'm gonna complain about burning those damn 6 CD's. Not all got a DVD-RW. That if you don't buy the game  But then again who burns these day, doesn't all got plenty of space? :D

Just:
Code:
mount -o loop jadajada.iso /mnt/iso

I picked up my copy of UT 2004 last night, after having played the demo for several days. I got the 6 CD version(1-5 install cd's and a play cd). There was a card included in the box, that you could fill out and send in with the original cover of the UT 2003 manual to get the $10 rebate.

The game was quit easy to install and worked right off the bat for me. It is a slight hassle changing out all those CD's though, and ends up being around 5.5 gig. I have not tried out the voice chat with it though yet, or measured any frame rates or anything. Maybe I will post that later.

On the box itself it states that it runs on linux, but is unsupported. Even has a little penguin on the back of the box with all the other logos.

I was going to get SE, but its sold-out everywhere it seems.
So does anyone know what is a good alternative headset to use for the VOIP features?
