can't synthesize input events

I get the "can't synthesize input events" error message when I boot. I can't find any real problems although I'm not currently using my computer with a connection to broadband, just dialup.

Is there a way to fix this error message? I don't want to simply remove the message but rather fix it, however one does that.

I've seen the patch in the bug reports for this but I don't understand how you'd go about applying the patch.

Any help much appreciated.
