i'm running mm-sources 2.6.4-r1 and wanted to use udev on my asus board. it's one of the first boards with ata using the promise controller. problem is, that if i use it (and i want to), i cant seem to use udev, because the harddisks are on /dev/hde rather tahn on /dev/hda. is there a way to tell udev, where to look for the right device? since udev cant mount it, i'm promted for my root password for maintenance... its a little disturbing. _________________ If you fall off a cliff, you might as well try to fly. are you using sysfsutils 1.0.0 and not using the tarball to save devices state? If so, try downgrading to sysfsutils 0.4.0.0 and see if it solves your problem. If you can't chroot into the install, try ediitng /etc/conf.d/rc and turn on the tarball option, then reboot. |

I had a very similar problem with sysfsutils 1.0.0.0 - told me it couldn't mount /sys because it couldn't create a locking file /etc/mtab~68 because the filesystem was read-only. Downgrading to 0.4.0.0 fixed it |

for clarification, this isnt udev failing to mount the device - udev is only responsible for creating the nodes.
it sounds like udev is not creating the /dev/hde nodes early enough in boot - im not too sure of the boot sequence with udev...
if downgrading sysfstools works, then you should post a bug report at https://bugs.gentoo.org (check that there is no existing one first) _________________ http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd |
