XRANDR Rotation

I just purchased a new LCD that can pivot into portrait mode, and I'm having a devil of a time with xrandr rotation- it appears to be disabled for my setup.

I'm running xfree 4.3 with nvidia's binary drivers- I'v also tried the nv driver with the same result. I'm not using xinerama, and I'm able to switch resolutions using xrandr, but I'm not able to use reflection or rotation.

Using the nv driver and disabling xrandr I've been able to get an x instance up that is rotated using the nv specific options, but I'd like to be able to do this on the fly without having to close down X.

Is this just not supported using the nvidia or nv driver, or am I missing something really silly?

Yes, unfortunately

- no rotation with nvidia
- no rotation with xrandr

With my nvidia graphic card using the "nv"-driver I get only:

I surely have a TFT with rotate option!
What am I doing wrong? How can I disable xrandr?
