Hi,

I'm having an unusual problem, I've tried searching the forums to no avail, so I'm posting here.

I'm using a Wacom Graphire 2 Mouse/Tablet, which is all setup, and working correctly normally. However, whenever I burn a DVD with k3m, my mouse stops working and I have to reboot, even restarting X doesn't work.

Other system info:
Kernel 2.6.4-rc1 (compiled from development-sources)
Wacom compiled into the kernel, not as a module
SCSI emulation for the DVD drive
XFree 4.3.0-r5
XFree-DRM 4.3.0-r7
ATI-Drivers 3.2.8-r1

This is the log file given when restarting X after burning a DVD - I'm unsure what else to post, what would be relevant, if you want any logs before or after I burn a DVD, let me know, and I'll post them here.

And finally, my grub.conf - in case the problem is I didn't do the scsi emulation for the drives correctly
Code:

default 0
timeout 3
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

title=Gentop Linux 2.6.4-rc1
  root (hd0,0)
  kernel /kernel-2.6.4-rc1 root=/dev/hda2 /dev/hdc=ide-scsi /dev/hdd=ide-scsi

title=Windows XP
  map (hd0) (hd1)
  map (hd1) (hd0)
  chainloader (hd1,0)+1

Sorry for the rather long post, but hopefully that's enough info :)

Thanks for any help you can give me, any links/pointers to other people with the same problem are very welcome :)

Cheers,
Jamie Lyon [Toris]

Hi,

Just an update for you. I think I've found why this is happening, I just don't know how to fix it. It seems burning a DVD, either temporarily kills the USB stack, or at least disconnects all connected devices then reconnects them, this is from dmesg after burning a DVD:
Code:

hub 1-0:1.0: port 1 disabled by hub (EMI?), re-enabling...<6>usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 2
usb 1-2: new low speed USB device using address 3
input: Wacom Graphire2 4x5 on usb0000:00:07.2-1

Another thing I've noticed, is that after this happens, or if I manually take out the USB mouse and re-plug it in (without burning a DVD), the mouse device moves from /dev/input/event2 to /dev/input/event3. Can you think of any reason for this, or any way to fix it?

Many thanks,
Jamie Lyon [Toris]

I have the same problem with my wacom and the usb-serial driver, when I sync my palm the USB crashes after a while. I also own a NEC-2500. I'm not sure if this is related.

What motherboard do you have?

I have a Gigabyte 7ZXE, rather old motherboard now. I've done a few tests, and I think it may be my motherboard rather than anything with linux. As I remember back in windows, when I burnt a dvd, my wacom mouse drivers unloaded themselves.

I've just temporarily switched to using my ps/2 optical mouse for now, I'll try the wacom tablet again when I get a new motherboard sometime, I don't have much need for it at the moment anyway.

If you do find out it's not hardware related, that would be nice to know though!

Cheers.

Hmm, in your case I'm afraid it is the hardware.
