Hi all,
Does anyone know if there are any issues using laptop-mode with encrypted partitions? The laptop-mode.txt file in the kernel Documentation directory seems to imply that the laptop-mode-tools will be mounting and unmounting file systems in addition to changing the frequency of buffer writes. Is that right? If so, won't it need me to enter the password for any encrypted partitions? Can I turn this behavior off and still get some power saving benefit?

laptop-mode will do remounts, but i believe it does them via the remount option which will not require you to enter the password again (at least it doesn't for me). There is also a configuration option, DO_REMOUNTS, which can control if any remounts are done. I can't say what kind of power saving you would get without the remounts, however.

Without the remounts, no power savings. The remounts are necessary to keep the filesystems from writing to disk periodically, to commit journal transactions and such.
