Hi, I cannot get my parallell port to work. I would like to use it for printing.
I compiled the kernel to support parallell port, pc-style hardware and parallell port printing in modules.
dmesg, however says this:
parport 0x387 (WARNING): CTR: wrote 0x0c, read 0xff
parport 0x387 (WARNING): DATA: wrote 0xaa, read 0xff
parport 0x387: You gave this address, but there is probably no parallel port there!
parport0: PC-style at 0x387, irq 7 [PCSPP(,...)]
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
I have win95 and Suse 7.0 installed on this machine, and the port works on addres 0x387
Can someone tell my what I'm doing wrong with gentoo?
Regards,

Hi!
First thing I would try is to check my bios setup menu and see if it is set to "yes" for Plug-n-Play OS Installed?
This should be set to "no".
LMK if that helps...

Hi Mark.
Plut n Play OS was set to yes, but there was also another silly error: I had set the address to 387 instead of 378.
