cd audio, where's y music??? (kscd)

I dont get any sound out of the cd audio player (kscd) anymore. I used to, but now when I press the play button, it plays alright, but I dont hear a thing
could it be the new kernel I have installed a few months ago? (2.6.0)
alsa is in it but totally nor configured since OSS works fine (xmms)
does anyone know what might be the root to this problem?

Are you using OSS emulation via ALSA?
Try running alsamixergui and unmute the CD line, also increase its volume.

nope, as i said, alsa is in the kernel but totally not configured and also not used.

But i figured out why.
For some reason I cant play music in the cd writer.
xmms says it has no digital extraction (or something like that)
while the reader does.

Did you for some reason forget to plug the cd-audio-cable into your drive and/or mobo?
