Whenever I'm logged in to KDE using my normal user, I can't open the CD drive, even if it's not mounted. If I log in as any other user or leave KDE/X, it works. Anything I should check for?

try the eject tool ... emerge sys-apps/eject ... you'll probably have to run it via sudo or directly as root but if that works, you know at least that there is something else blocking your drive ...

Thanks for the advice. I tried it alone and with -r, /dev/cdroms/cdrom0, and /dev/hdc. Each time it failed with "eject: unable to eject, last error: Invalid argument".

What does 'any other user' qualify as? Other than root? If so, compare the output of the 'groups' command for the non-root user that can eject, and the user that can't eject. Maybe cdrom group is needed.

"any other user" is root or a new user. I can also eject it manually when I'm not logeed in as my regular user.

hey, did you find any solution.
I've got the same prob. (or similar)
I can mount and read a CD-ROM just fine, unmount it works as well, but when I try to eject it I get:
Code:
eject: unable to eject, last error: Invalid argument

But, if I "log out" of KDE then eject works just fine. :?:

Hm, now suddenly the disk came out when pressing the eject button on the CD drive. (it didn't before).

Read somewhere that something is putting a delay on something. will try to localize that thread again....

Oh, found the cause:
Arts was the cause. Set "Autosuspend if idle for" to 10 sec:s in Control Center. Now it works fine.

sorry for disturbing...
