My Christmas present (P4 w/hyperthreading) still won't boot Linux. I need a dual boot configuration with iswraid in a 2.4.25 kernel. Gentoo-sources has the kernel, and I have seen the iswraid patch file and a diff file for the 2.4.25 version. So, I need to get them into a kernel.
I can boot Knoppix 3.3 live cd, or Gentoo minimal live cd. Gentoo universal live CD hangs. I believe this is an issue with the Matrox card (Parhelia 128).
I need some way to apply the diff file to the original iswraid file. Both of these files are text listings appended to the bottom of web pages. http://lwn.net/Articles/60247/ and http://lkml.org/lkml/2004/2/20/315. Obviously, this stuff is not ready for emerge, and I have not played with a working gentoo installation. Someone may be working on this since the iswraid patch is very recent.
It has been several years since I tried redhat 5.2, so I am very rusty. At this point I would be happy to see a bash prompt.
Iswraid cannot be a module if I am going to boot off the sata raid drives.
I intend to reload Windows XP after I wipe the drives. That said, partitioning can be anything that works. I have attached an older pata HD that I would like to use for the swap file. I could do a temporary install to get some working tools running. |

The url http://lkml.org/lkml/2004/2/20/315 ended up with a period appended which made the page not found. Sorry about that. |
