I've been wondering about that. From the very beginning, I pronounced it 'Ghen-to' whereas my friend pronounced it 'Jen-tew.' Others have called it 'Ghen-tew' and 'Jen-To.' I wonder what the developers have to say about its pronunciation.

I pronounce it "Gen (as in generation) Too (as in me too))

I heard it was called gentoo because of a penguin so maybe taking a look at the dictionary about how to pronounce it...

I found this when I first started using Gentoo... kind of stuck in my memory :D

How is Gentoo pronounced, and what does it mean?

A Gentoo is a species of a small, fast penguin, pronounced "gen-too" (the "g" in "gentoo" is a soft "g", as in "gentle"). The latin name of the Gentoo penguin is Pygoscelis papua. The name Gentoo has been given to the penguin by the inhabitants of the Falkland Islands.

I guess in pratice I usualy say it a bit sharper though..

A search in Duplicates should turn up other threads on the same topic.
