I think this belongs more in DE rather than multimedia because I think it's a cause of the Desktop Environment.
I only found 1 other example in searches. But as a general enquiry, is it normal for video feed to pause whilst moving / resizing a window? This used to happen in KDE and since the re-install it also happens on xfce-4. This happens with TV card input, MPEGs, AVIs, any kind of video feed. Whilst resizing, the sound continues and once you release the mouse button, the video jumps to the point it should be at.
I'm guessing it's an issue that lies with xfree, just want it confirmed.
Thanks. |

I'm not totally sure about this, but i would suspect it has something to do with the video driver you're using with mplayer/xine.
xvidix has given a somewhat similar problem to me, so i would sugest you try to change to the xv driver and see if the problem still remains. |

How would I go about changing to the xv driver?
So I presume that this isn't the normal behaviour then and that video feed isn't supposed to pause? This doesn't only occur with mplayer - but also TvTime PCTV input. Pretty much any video. |

Well assuming you're using mplayer from the cli i think it's -vo xv if you're using some sort of gui there should be an option somewhere.
With xv it's normal for your video to have some flickerings when moving the window but it should be running continuously. |

Ah right - I don't think that will be the problem at all then - considering the problem isn't limited to mplayer.
I thought a lot more people would have a similar problem - obviously not. Wonder what's causing the problem then. :/ |

I think you misunderstood me
That's the way to do it in mplayer. Other video apps might have different ways of changing it.
I advised you to try changing it in mplayer because that way you'll get a fast way of knowing if that's the problem or not. |

Okay thanks for clarifying. I followed your instructions and the same thing happens, regardless. One thing to note - I was wrong about audio. It seems that when re-sizing moving another window, the sound also stops along with the video. The video basically pauses and continues where it left off.
It is just with the TV Card alone where the sound continues, obviously because of the line out and sound decoder being seperate from the video feed.
After checking, it seems that mplayer was running the vx driver as default (it used that without me adding the -vo vx switch). Do you have any other ideas?
Thanks again. |

Well i'm sorry to report i made a boo-boo
I didn't read your original post with as much attention as i should...
The behaviour you report is the normal one. I thought your video froze and didn't continue...My bad...
Try doing the opposite of what i told you try with the xvidix drive.
Again, sorry for my blantant mistake
