Hi!
I just emerged k3b. Had it working in my previous Gentoo-Installation which died with my old HDD
I start up k3b and it hangs at Scanning for CD-Devices.
k3bsetup gives this output and hangs too.
kcmshell: (K3bExternalBinManager) Cdrecord 2.1a25 features: gracetime, overburn, cdtext, clone, cuefile, suidroot, plain-atapi, hacked-atapi
kcmshell: (K3bExternalBinManager) 2 1 -1 a25 seems to be cdrecord version >= 1.11a02, using burnfree instead of burnproof
kcmshell: (K3bExternalBinManager) seems to be cdrecord version >= 1.11a31, support for Just Link via burnfree driveroption
kcmshell: /dev/sr0 resolved to /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd
kcmshell: /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd is block device (0)
kcmshell: /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd seems to be cdrom
kcmshell: (K3bCdDevice::DeviceManager) /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd bus: 0, id: 0, lun: 0
kcmshell: (K3bCdDevice) /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/cd: init()
My Burner is set up to use SCSI-Emulation. Anyone know what's wrong? |

Nope, I don't know what's wrong.
If you're on kernel 2.6.x you can try burning with ATAPI, that works just fine here. Remove the hdc=scsi-ide (or whatever it's called exactly) from the kernel boot options -- that's easy to try. _________________ Excelsior! |

I don't like ATAPI burning for now. Seems pretty unstable to me.
I just went from gentoo-sources 2.6.3-r1 to development-sources 2.6.1-rc1 and everything works. The SCSI-Part of the 2.6.3 Kernel seems f*cked 'cause even my USB Stick refused to mount. |

Interesting. I ahve been having the same issues with k3b.
I'm going to try upgrading to the mm-sources 2.6.5 to see if that fixes the problem, otherwise I'll go back to 2.6.1 like you did.
I have a hard time understandign why this would help though. Its seems like a k3b problem to me, cause it works just fine with gtoaster... _________________ ----

gtoaster seems to handle the device detection another way than k3b. i now upgraded to development-sources 2.6.4-rc1 and it still works. but as i had 2.6.3 only gtoaster was functional. even my usb stick refused to work and i could barely mount cd's. only some choosen ones worked. |

well..
I compiled mm-sources 2.6.5-rc1, and it broke my box.
As soon as I get around to burning myself a new Gentoo boot cd (I lost my old one) I'll have to try the 2.6.4 version....
I'll let you people know if I have the same result as Scan-C _________________ ----

I reinstalled 2.6.1-mm2 and k3b works perfectly.
For soem reason I can't seem to get any kernel after 2.6.3 to wor at all, but that is another issue. _________________ ----

This really seems to be a problem in 2.6.3 - scsi and some printer support seems broken. Exact same thing happened to me, k3b hung whenever it was started on 2.6.3 (vanilla), and worse: it coulnd't even be kill -9'd. Just don't use 2.6.3 - it's broken. Every other version (including .2 and .4) works. |
