For a webserver .. What would i do with gentoo, in regards to
1. Wich webserver (be running php, maybe JSP)
2. Configuration of gentoo
3. Security, how do i ensure optimal security, i dont want to get 0wned, do i setup firewall software, what ?
Kind og a n00b on nix in general, alternative is having a windoze box run an apache server/tomcat and some personal firewall software.. I'd like some general pointers, standard stuff, best practise, in configuring a linux server...

This link has just about everything you need to know to setup a secure gentoo machine:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-security.xml
General rule of thumb, partition your drive a lot to be able to set strict permissions, have good passwords, don't enable kernel features you don't NEED, and have a good backup/logging system. Of course there's more in the guide so you'll want to check that out. _________________ #define NULL rand() /*heh heh heh */
