|

Hello all,
Although I have used Linux in various distributions for about 10 years, I am just trying out Gentoo. I had read that the distribution had great support and, from the forums, it looked very promising.
I had a significant problem yesterday trying to install using the LiveCD and researched the problem finding both discussions and a bug report with a partial workaround. I then asked for help on this thread: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=151601
What protocol do I have to perform to get a response? Am I in the wrong place? I am working on a real problem that must affect other people trying to install Gentoo. As excited as I was to dig in and cooperatively solve problems with a young distribution, I wonder if I am wasting my time.
Thank you for any comments.

From your other thread, it looked like the problem was solved.
Is there anything else that you need help with ? |

Hi Cyrillic,
Thanks for responding.
My concern is that my fix is obviously not the correct way to bring up the link and I am not sure of any side effects. Specifically, if I spend the time on a full install, how do I configure the system for the ethernet card to work properly.
For example, I will want the card to mount and unmount by the cardmgr when it is inserted and removed. If this problem I discovered only applies to the install than this is not a worry, but my guess is that it is broken in the installed configuration also.

The pcmcia stuff on the LiveCD doesn't seem to work properly, but this configuration does not get carried over to your installed system. You will still need to setup the kernel, init scripts, and other things according to your preferences in order to have networking work on your installed system. |

I wish I understood how the LiveCD is broken or what should be there when I get to the config. I'll give an install a try.
Again, thanks for the reply.
