Ok - I had this working a year ago, but after a reinstall I suddenly can't seem to get it up running.
Let me start by telling what some of my configs are:

/etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config

Code:

!DisplayManager.requestPort: 0

/usr/kde/3.2/share/config/kdm/kdmrc

Code:

[Xdmcp]
Enable=true
Willing=/usr/kde/3.2/share/config/kdm/Xwilling

/usr/kde/3.2/share/config/kdm/Xaccess

Code:

* #any host can get a login window

When I restart, port 177 (or whatever it was) is never opened.
I recon someone can tell me what I didn't remember to do to get this working! (I'd better start writing things down!)
