I tried everything with Rhythmbox 0.6.1, but i can't get it to accept MP3 files. this is independent from whether i'm using GStreamer or Xine (i prefer Xine though, because it's reacting faster. Click Pause and unpause something again in Gstreamer and it takes 200ms until it plays on - that's awful). I put both mp3 and mpeg into my USE variables.

During compile it says that "libid3tag is required for FLAC support" or something like that. I didn't really care aubout that, though i have libid3tag 0.15.0b installes, which it doesn't seem to recognize. I tried to install 0.15.1b, but apparently none of the download sources were available. So i emerged rhathmbox with USE="-flac" which worked but in the Aubout box of rhythmbox it means "Audio Backend : GStreamer" respectively "Xine" and "Supported Audio Formats: Vorbis"
What's the trick to make it play MP3s? I really want to use it, because the XMMS random (shuffle) algorithm is shit.

Stupid me. I should have looked before. The Rhythmbox Webpage says i need libid3tag. And in the 0.6.10 changelog there is a point called "Fix flac configury" (I hate this stupid international english... i hope they've _fixed_ it, "fix" rather sounds like a todo item or even an order). However this didn't fix it for me. I will have to find out whether that's Rhythmbox's or the ebuild's fault.

For mp3 add mad to your USE=. That will compile with libmad support.
