|
|
Hello I am running kernel 2.6.4-rc1 and sm trying to install an HP DJ710C. I have parport, parpot_pc, and lp modules compiled and running.
/dev/lp0 shows up but when I "cat test.txt > /dev/lp0" as per the gentoo how-to nothing happens.
Any ideas? |

If you read the the gentoo printing guide properly you would have seen this:
Quote: | Note: Some printers (e.g. several HP LaserJets) need a ^L (Control-L) at the end of the file to trigger printing. Without the ^L the cat succeeds, but the printer absorbs the data, then sits and does nothing. |

Tell ya what if you were not trying to come across as a big shot, then maybe you should consider your phrasing when you "help" people. I took your comment as an insult. Like gee he's asking for help and didn't mention one little thing so he MUST be a fucking retard, which is often the tone of many posters on these forums.
You are correct I didn't mean "presumtive" I meant "presumptuous". Which I may have been guilty of in this instance. I'm not afraid to admit I was wrong, which if I misread your tone (hey its the net it happens) then I was wrong and I'm sorry. However if you even casually meant your statement in a insulting fashion then my previous comments stand.
THAT being said the problem was the DJ710 can't deal with ascii. HP cheaped out on the parts I guess. Which matters not as I now have a DJ810 that was just given to me. WOOT. |
