mplayerplug-in takes ages to play

i'm using mozilla 1.7a and the newest mplayerplug-in with mplayer-1.0_pre3. when i click on media links in homepages (www.musicline.de for example, but also other sites) it takes ages (like 1 minute) before mplayer starts to play the file. i have a fast DSL connection, and the sites i'm testing are also loding fast, and as i said i'e tested it with a lot of sites. i've already played around with the caching options in mplayer config but that didn't help. any ideas?

I have the same issue with both Mozilla and Firefox.

I am at work now, but will check later tonight what versions of the browsers and mplayer I am using.

It looks to me like the mplayer plugin caches the entire video file before starting to play it. Just my best guess so far.

There is a cache= in /etc/mplayer.conf. It is set pretty high. Lower it.

Thanks Kabuto for that last comment - wish I had noticed that earlier... all that time - wasted - just because of a 8Mb default caching... (WHY? WHY? WHY?)

I set it to 1024 bytes now... much better... unless I start running into a number of streams that don't run well with 1Mb cache, that's where it's staying.

Anyone have a clue why the default is that huge? Many of the videos I watch probably aren't much over 8Mb total.
