i have emerged the slmodem package, which installs teh module i need to use my modem (a pci one). but it generates something weird...a /dev/ttySL0 file, which is a 'ghost'. it is linked to /dev/modem, but it is not there. i repeat: /dev/modem exists, but /dev/ttySL0 (which is linked to /dev/modem) does not...it just does not exist. a rm -rf /dev/modem shows no warnigs..and it can be repeated forever. any help ?

this is the output for a ls command:

lr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 6 Mar 22 01:21 /dev/modem -> ttySL0

thanks in advance

Have you loaded the kernel module for your modem yet?

yeh, lsmod shows the module name as described in its config file... do i need to do something else to check if the module is installed and loaded? i really need this modem working (it is the right module to make it work)..
thanks for the reply.
