I've got a Gentoo 1.4 system with 2.4.20-gaming-r3 kernel.
An ASUS A7N8X with Athlon XP cpu.
01:0a.0 CardBus bridge: Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c475 (rev 80)
My problem is that my Orinoco card isn't recognized.
When my PCMCIA starts up the card is wrongfully recognized as "Anonymous memory".
I've also tried to rmmod the memory_cs modules and manually modprobing for orinoco / orinoco_cs . It loads the modules without errors but no extra interfaces are reported in /proc/dev/net , ifconfig or iwconfig.
I've no idea what may be wrong.
The kernel is compiled without PCMCIA support and got Wireless (non-ham) as Y. It reported no errors while emerging pcmcia-cs.

I've got the same problem with vanilla 2.6.4. I've tried every combination of "include memory" & "include ports" for config.opts, derived from lspci -v but still no luck. kernel args noapic, nolapic pci=bios_irq haven't helped either. I've also tried a few other distros install's to see if they could detect the correct values. None of the 2.6 kernel distros find anything, Suse with 2.4.?? manages a bit better getting through to a high-low beep from pcmcia but never produced anything from cardctl ident. lspci sees the Ricoh bridge.
If you make any progress, please post here. |

I run 2.6.4 on a Compaq Presario 700US with an ORINOCO GOLD 80211b card... no problems.
What you may be missing is a required driver. The provided /etc/pcmcia/config file needed to be modified at the device "orinoco_cs" block by adding the "ds" driver to the module line. Once I did that, it all fell into place.
One other sticking point for me was the setup options in /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts. It took me quite a bit of googling and cursing... but I got that one ironed out also... If you need help, email me direct and I'll send you a copy of the mentioned file.
Once other thing to remember... the wep keys aren't just random jibberish. It sound odd, but just pulling hexbytes out of my ass wouldn't work... the keys were rejected. I finally emerged the linux-wlan-ng ebuild and used the key generator in there. It all now works... wep too.
Stick with it, the ORINOCO cards do work well in Gentoo. |

I still think it won't work with us with nFORCE chipset. I don't know if the Compaq Presario 700US got it, but I've tried loading the ds-driver aswell and it didn't work for me. :/ |
