Hi!

I'm considering purchasing a Shuttle SB62G2 system for Gentoo. Does anyone have any experiences with this? Anything I should be aware of?

No experience myself, but looking through the specs the only problems I would expect are in setting up (serial ATA) RAID. The Intel RAID chip is supported under Windows XP only, according to http://us.shuttle.com/spec/SB62G2_DM.pdf

Of course, you´ll also need a driver for the built-in graphics card or put in a separate AGP card with a known driver.

I'm planning to use it for server-only purposes, so the graphics I'm not worrying about (All communication will be via SSH).

The S-ATA drive will be no problem? These are fully supported under Gentoo/Linux?

SATA is fully supported by 2.6 kernels, so no problems should arise. It may however not be perfect yet, as some threads show, e.g. https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=119349

Hmm, too bad the dude never replied to let us know whether that fixed his problem... 8O

Maybe I should go for traditional IDE instead...

Well, the SB62G2 has been ordered, with S-ATA, so let's see how far I get with getting the beast operational when it arrives... 8)
