I have used mirrorselect to select a fast mirror, and it has added GENTOO_MIRRORS to /etc/make.conf, but when I do 'emerge sync' I am still connected to the same crappy slow mirror that I was before. How can I tell emerge sync which mirror to use? |

rsync-mirrors and download-mirrors are different. Try "mirrorselect -i -r" |

hi,
mirrorselect is to determine a fast mirror for your distfiles, not for the portage tree mirror.
normally, rsync connects to the gentoo server to get redirected to a fast, low loaded portage tree server. if you want to get another rsyc server try
Code: | # netselect rsync.gentoo.org |
the result is an ip adress. no make an:
Code: | rsync xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx |
replace xxx with the ip, shown by netselect.
then you can see a banner message from the rsync server.
change your /etc/make.conf to use your new rsync server in the future.
