Hi @ all!

This is my configuration:

http://www.ghostaholic.com/datas/users/27-myconfig.JPG

My ISP provides 2 dynamic IPs for me so I figured I could connect 2 PCs to internet without router. I dont mind having router. It's just that I want to give a windows machine my brother is using full access to internet, withouth NAT and all that port trigering and forwarding for every application he will need. In short I want him to take care of his PC and security.

I easily managed to connect with both PCs to my ISP. I get 2 IP numbers. But Internet trafic just stops to a hault when both PCs are connected. As soon as I disconnect one PC from HUB everything works OK.
What could be causing problems. How do I even start to debug this?

TIA,
T.

Some info about equipment.
PC1: Debian box/200Mhz Pentium
PC2: Dual boot/Gentoo/Win XP, Athlon 1400
HUB: Accton, Etherhub-8s

I'd suggest booting up the Windows box under something like Knoppix (or even both boxes under Knoppix to give a really controlled setup), that way you rule out the possibillity of Windows having done something strange, or something (like a DHCP server) being unintentionally active on your boxes.

If that doens't work I'd start using things like traceroute to determine where the problem is (i.e where do your packets go both in working and failed mode).

Let me get this straight..... you are wanting to put a Windows machine DIRECTLY on the internet, Public IP and all? 8O Not smart.

If you have the money, I'd recommend a cheap netgear firewall. It handles all of the NAT/PAT translations for you, and unless he has someone that is going to access HIS machine from the internet (as in initiate the connection first, before his machine goes out to the internet) you don't need any port forwarding. (Some games can be an exception, but not generally speaking).

i second Sir_Chancealot's suggestion ... get an inexpensive router ... adds another layer of security to your network

Either your provider will not give you 2 IP numbers (is it written on your contract that you may connect two computers with one subscription?), or, more likely, your DSL modem can't do that.
Use a router.
