Hello!
I am quite desperate at the moment ... I really want to use Rosegarden, but I have a lot of problems:
My MIDI system:
Code: | pmidi -l
Port Client name Port name
64:0 Rawmidi 0 - TerraTec EWX24/96 TerraTec EWX24/96 MPU-401
128:0 Client-128 TiMidity port 0
128:1 Client-128 TiMidity port 1 |
I run up rosegarden 4.0.9.6 and open a sound file. I press the play button. Rosegarden shows everything as it is playing, but I do not hear anything.
OK, at Instrument Parameters I can see the the "Rawmidi 0 - TerraTec EWX24/96" device. So everything is clear, because this Device is not connected to anything.
I want to change it to a TiMidity device. After a lot of reading, searching and trying, the only solution I find is this ugly hack:
Select Studio->Manage MIDI devices...
In the new window, delete the Rawmidi-TerraTec device.
Select Studio->Save Current Document As Default Studio
Reload the Audio file.
So my first question:
There must be another way to change the output midi device. How am I supposed to do this?
Now the file plays on a TiMidity device. But it sounds ... like crap, really. Many percussion voices appear on a wrong instrument.
This is the midi file, already the beginning sounds wrong with Rosegarden.
I can play it with pmidi or timidity from the command line, and everything sounds correct.
I guess my problem has something to do with the "midi banks" section under Select Studio->Manage MIDI devices. There were no bank loaded to my TiMidity device. Quite clueless I loaded the "General MIDI" preset, but nothing changed. Again in the midi banks dialog, i saw the percussion checkbox. So i chose it and everything on the left got greyed out (why?). It was not possible to dis-check it (why?). I clicked apply. after closing and reopening the dialog, nothing had changed: The percussion box was not checked (why?).
My 2nd question:
How do I make rosegarden play the correct midi sounds??
Please help me, I am clueless.
Thanks,

Well.. rosegarden is still under development and sometimes can get really frustating
I don't use timidity, but in my setup I just load the General MIDI on the device I chose to play MIDI, and I didn't check the percussion box.
Anyway... some professional MIDI sequencer works well with wine. _________________ /etc/init.d/alsasound start
