The emerge 13 of 70 from the emerge system of stage 2 is stuck on a mirror.

I keep getting the error message...

failed: Connection timed out

Will it eventually try another mirror or what will it do?

You can try editing the /etc/make.conf, and add additional mirror site into "GENTOO_MIRRORS="themirror" line.

I recommend the mirros that are located nearby.

ftp.ucsb.edu works pretty well for me.
