I have an Ultra1 trying to install 2004.0 64bit. I do a stop-a then boot cdrom which I get a silo error: SILO Fast Access MISS MMU.
I have installed gentoo on the intel platform, first time on a sun platfom which I am also new...
What have I tried? 3 types of media burning down to 1X, two CDRom drives and I can boot solaris fine...
Could SILO be the issue? I am downloading 1.4rc5 now...
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Just for kicks I downloaded Mandrake for sparc, it booted fine and installed without a hitch.
So...
Should I have not downloaded the 64bit version? Is the gentoo build fussy? It was burned the same way I burned mandrake (media, speed, hardware)...
Any insight would be greatly appreciated...I would much rather run Gentoo.

Why not netboot? Much simpler. |

From what I can tell, this appears to be a bug with SILO that none of us developers can replicate. You might try asking on the silo-general mailing list at http://www.sparc-boot.org. |

I get the exact same error on a SunBlade 100. I've tried OBP 4.0.0, 4.5.9, and 4.10.something...
I'm thinking I'll have to resort to installing some other linux disro first, and use a chroot environment to install gentoo.
I'll probably try to netboot first, but I've never done that before. |
