What processor "class" does VMWare use? I'm going to install another gentoo inside a VM session to test a couple of applications. If it uses the same processor "class" as the host I'm going to do a bunch of buildpkg to save time.

Vmware uses whatever processor that you have. It will boot as "Pentium Pro" but when your OS comes up it will see it as whatever it really is. When I boot into linux in vmware, it even sees that it is a mobile pentium 3.
