Ciao
ho deciso di reinstallare la gentoo e questa volta sono riuscito a far andare tutto... beh quasi tutto...
nel senso che ho due problemi...
il primo: ho lo schermo che sembrerebbe avere solo 16 colori...
il secondo: nonostante quando sono in testuale la keymap sia giusta appena faccio partire gnome mi si sfasano i tasti....

Per i colori devi avera la sezione Screen del tuo xfree tipo questo

Non la configurazione sotto mano , ma per la tastiera dovresti inserire nella sezione keyboard una opzione del tipo:

Option "Xkblayout" "it"
|
Forse la sintassi non e' corretta al 100% ma questa dovrebbe essere la soluzione.
