|
|
I just set up Bootsplash on my desktop (NForce2, Radeon9600) and it works very well, so I figured I'd try it on my laptop too. It's an IBM Thinkpad 600E and the neomagic framebuffer driver works well.
The thing is, no matter how I cut it I can't seem to get the background image to show. I have used several different video settings, tried using vesafb as well as the neomagic fb driver but none works. This is how my grub.conf lines currently look:
Code: | title=Gentoo Linux 2.6.4-love2
root (hd0,0)
kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz-2.6.4-love2 root=/dev/hda3 vga=0x316 hdc=ide-scsi
initrd=/boot/initrd-1024x768 |
I have tried with video=vesafb:mtrr,ywrap and so on, but no go. The only mention of the initrd I get in my dmesg output is this - perhaps it's all there usually is, even when it works?
Code: | checking if image is initramfs...it isn't (ungzip failed); looks like an initrd
Freeing initrd memory: 40k freed |
Has anyone ever managed to get Bootsplash working on a Neomagic chip? I have searched the forums here and found nothing.

i guess you've got an NM2200 vga chip ...
the frambuffer driver is buggy. i'm using the vesafb driver instead. i can't experience a difference (except theres no bug ) |
