Hello!

I'm running emacs version 21.3.1 on Gnome 2.4.
There are no problems when displaying special characters such as German umlauts (ä, ö) in other X applications (Firefox and OpenOffice.org), but with emacs it seems to be different.

Although it is possible to see and input them, you cannot search for them if the file was written to disk and then re-read. If I do so, I get a message in the mini buffer sayin' there would have been no results, which is rather strange since I do get results when creating the file without having it saved yet. Copying such text into other X applications won't work as well: They'll replace these characters with a question mark.

I've already enabled support for German under Options, Mule, Set Language Environment, European.

I hope there's somebody out there to fix this problem.

Moritz
