Hm. Did you try the "Get Gentoo!" link on the gentoo homepage? Any mirror should contain the 2004.0 ISO's.
Kernel version is what you want it to be; default 2.4.something, I believe. |

If you are looking for more precise version info, I just looked at the 2004.0 universal CD ...
The 2 kernels you can boot the CD with are :
gentoo = 2.4.24-xfs-r3
smp = 2.6.1-gentoo-r2
If you are installing Gentoo with internet access, you can choose any kernel you want, but if you can't (or don't want to) download kernel sources, these 2 are available on the LiveCD :
vanilla-sources-2.4.24
gs-sources-2.4.25_pre7-gss-r2 |

Just out of curiousity, where exactly on the universal cd are the kernel sources, and how would you go about emerging them??
The Universal CD is supposed to allow a net-free install, but I couldn't get it to work - the first barrier being the emerge of the kernel sources without a network.
I used the 2004.0 Universal CD. |

In order to do a net-free install, this is one of the steps you need to do.
Gentoo Handbook wrote: | Code Listing 12: Copy over source code
# mkdir /mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/distfiles
# cp /mnt/cdrom/distfiles/* /mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/distfiles/ |
Then, when you are at the point of needing kernel sources, you can use either one of these.
Code: | # emerge gs-sources
or
# emerge =vanilla-sources-2.4.24 |
If you want any other kernel versions, then the source code will need to be downloaded. |
