Well, I just got several nice truetype fonts, but I don't know how to install them, I put the fonts to ~/.fonts directory, but when I type mkfontdir in the directory, there is nothing in the new file fonts.dir .
Somebody can tell me how to install new truetype fonts manully?
PS: I use gnome 2.6 .

look for a font install tool in gnomes control center,
like KDE's font-install tool, I think gnome also has.
If not search the portage for a font install tool,
or search this gentoo forum for installing font hints.
