|
|
hi, i am trying to install my radeon 9800. i have followed this howto: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=105524&highlight=9800 but had no luck
when i run lsmod it the results are:
Code: | michael1 root # lsmod
Module Size Used by
rtc 11304 -
|
which if i am not wrong means that fglrx isnt loading. the only differences in between myself and the guide are in kernel i have:
Code: | <M> Enhanced Real Time Clock Support
...
<*> /dev/agpgart (AGP Support)
< > ALI chipset support
<*> ATI chipset support
< > AMD Irongate, 761, and 762 chipset support
< > AMD Opteron/Athlon64 on-CPU GART support
<> Intel 440LX/BX/GX, I8xx and E7x05 chipset support
< > NVIDIA nForce/nForce2 chipset support
< > SiS chipset support
< > Serverworks LE/HE chipset support
<*> VIA chipset support
[*] Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)
< > 3dfx Banshee/Voodoo3+
< > 3dlabs GMX 2000
< > ATI Rage 128
< > ATI Radeon
< > Intel I810
< > Intel 830M, 845G, 852GM, 855GM, 865G
< > Matrox g200/g400
< > SiS video cards |
and in my modules.autoload.d i have:
running radeon 9800 and the gentoo-dev kernel 2.6.3 on abit K8V Maxx and amd 64 3000+
any ideas how to sort this out? i would really like to use the matrix screensaver with more than 8 fps
thanks,
michael |

My setup is similar to yours:
ASUS K8V
Radeon 9600XT
Here's my kernel configuration
<M> Enhanced Real Time Clock Support
...
<M> /dev/agpgart (AGP Support)
< > ALI chipset support
< > ATI chipset support
< > AMD Irongate, 761, and 762 chipset support
<M> AMD Opteron/Athlon64 on-CPU GART support
<> Intel 440LX/BX/GX, I8xx and E7x05 chipset support
< > NVIDIA nForce/nForce2 chipset support
< > SiS chipset support
< > Serverworks LE/HE chipset support
<M> VIA chipset support
[ ] Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)
< > 3dfx Banshee/Voodoo3+
< > 3dlabs GMX 2000
< > ATI Rage 128
< > ATI Radeon
< > Intel I810
< > Intel 830M, 845G, 852GM, 855GM, 865G
< > Matrox g200/g400
< > SiS video cards
[*] Support for frame buffer devices
<*> VGA 16-color graphics support
<*> VESA VGA graphics support
No others selected
Then emerge ati-drivers and ati-drivers-extra.
Run opengl-update
run fglrxconfig
In fglrxconfig, I answered Y to Use Internal AGPGART.
I'm getting 2829 in glxgears and 529 in fgl_glxgears. I'm sure you'll do much better than that. |

i sorted it, [*] Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support) was the trouble. i deselected it like you and all is well.
glxgears:
Code: |
21151 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4230.200 FPS
21130 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4226.000 FPS |
fgl_gears:
Code: | 2865 frames in 5.0 seconds = 573.000 FPS
2873 frames in 5.0 seconds = 574.600 FPS |
and the xmatrix is running very nicely :p
thanks! |
