I recently upgraded my kernel to 2.6.4 and my sound quit working. I've been through the forums and the alsa configuration guide countless times and cant get it to work. My sound card is
Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 64).
when i try to use alsamixer i get this error:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory
bash-2.05b# grep audio /proc/pci |

hi,
are you a member of the "sound" group?
are all settings concerning sound in "/etc/devfsd.conf" correct?
can you get some error messages from dmesg or /var/log/everything/current?
please be more specific
regards,
