I have a problem during the install of Gentoo. After "emerge sync" I got a message that there is an update available. Because I didn't know the command for updating I continued with the install, but during bootstrapping I got an error about glibc or something.
I have used a stage tarball from my cd, and updated portage from the internet. Could this cause the problem, or should I download the update pherhaps? What is the command then?
Thanks |

This comes directly from the installation guide:
Quote: | If you are warned that a new Portage version is available and that you should update Portage, you can safely ignore it. Portage will be updated for you later on during the installation. |
As for your error, could you please tell us what it outputs? |

This is an error I get on a new install during bootstrapping. I have commented the USE section in /etc/make.conf to get rid of the problem, but without success. |

You may want to download a newer stage tarball from one of the mirrors.
Don't try to update portage before bootstrap, because it will fail. If you don't believe me, you can try it yourself.
Code: | # emerge -u portage |

If you haven't solved it yet, try:
That will rebuild gcc, with support for c++. |

Forgot to say I already have it solved by applying the -gpm USE flag. Other USE flags I used are -java -gtkhml -gb voodoo3 3dfx
Thanks everyone |

did portage by any chance emerge ccache, if that is the case
just do the following
Code: |
export CCACHE_DIR="/var/tmp/.ccache" emerge --resume
|
there is nothing wrong with your gcc, so there is no need to
re-emerge it, since ccache intercept gcc invocations, and your
CCACHE_DIR is not defined, the compile fails and configure
thinks that your compiler cannot prroduce executables
ccache gets emerged, if i am not mistaken, if your FEATURES
flags contains ccache

I haven't finished the installation yet, but bootstrapping went fine when I applied -gpm, so shouldn't it be ok now?
Wouldn't I just be able to finish the installation and install gpm after that? |
