Is there possible make a mirror/back up all the stracture & files into cds in case of disk failure and not be forced again compile everything from zero? (Athlon-tbird :/ )
I can make it with some tarballs too i think but i need second (or many ) ideas.
Thanks |

If you have a server, or another machine with lots of HDD space, do what I do.
Each night, my system is copied to the server via rsync. The whole filesystem. Then, should you have a HDD failure, just install a new disk, rsync the files back, and re-install the bootloader, and you will be up in very litttle time.
(Note: this saved me once, so I highly suggest it, if you have the means). |

You may also want to check out rsnapshot. It's similar to just doing a straight rsync, but it allows you to keep historical data as well...so if you overwrite a file and don't notice for a few days, you can step back and restore the version of the file you're looking for. |
