If I get a "cannot reserve FB region" error from the radeonfb driver for my ATI Radeon 9700,
a) what can be the reason ?
b) how can I resolve the problem ?
Thanks.
Andreas

I have had countless issues with the radeonfb driver. I ended up just using the vesa driver for my framebuffer, and I honestly can't notice a performance difference. That may be your best bet. |

First thing you need to do is compile it into the kernel:
(2.6.x kernels) Device Drivers --> Graphics --> [*]VESA VGA Graphics Support (uncheck ati radeon stuff)
Not sure what it is for 2.4.x kernels, sorry.
Then you need to tell grub/lilo to use vesafb instead of radeonfb. If you're using lilo, it will be in the append= of the kernel you are trying to boot. Not sure what it would be for grub. |
