I emerged xscreensaver and really enjoy the eyecandy (even though I don't have openGL :( ). Unfortunately, I can't seem to get webcollage working correctly.

I'm using the simple
Code:
webcollage -root
but all I ever get is the default test pattern (which seems to come with xscreensaver since I've seen it used in a couple of the other screen savers).

When I run it at the command line (either as root or as my usual login) with verbose set
Code:
 /usr/lib/xscreensaver/webcollage -root -v
the same thing happens. I get urls printed to stderr, but again all I see is the test pattern.

Very strange. Any advice on how to figure out what's wrong :?:

I'm running fluxbox on a P2 400 with an onboard s3 Trio 3D video chip. Other display apps seem to work ok (like xplanet) so I don't think this is a hardware problem. emerge -up xscreensaver comes back negative so I don't need to upgrade.

BTW, the output says I don't have webcollage-helper installed but I see it in /usr/lib/xscreensaver/ . However, according to man webcollage I don't really *need* it.
A sample output when I run webcollage -root -vv
Code:
webcollage: 15:45:15: init: no webcollage-helper program

Webcollage started working for me as if by magic when I chose a random image folder in the advanced tab of xscreensaver. No idea why that is, unless webcollage uses it as a temporary storage space.
I got webcollage to recognise the helper file by adding /usr/lib/xscreensaver to my path.
This is done in /etc/profile
I guess you could also simlink the helper proggy into /usr/bin

I should have closed this a while ago since it's working now.

I pointed to an images directory in the xscreensaver advanced tab and have webcollage working with this config:
Code:
webcollage -root -delay 15

I get way too many porn images though :-( so I can't use it at work. Even if I create my own dictonary file with 5 or 6 technology words (IBM, cpu, monitor, linux, etc):!:
I also tried it with
Code:
 -filter "vidwacker"
and that seemed to distort things enough that I probably would be ok. I just hope the admins don't run driftnet.
