Im doing a simple groupadd GROUP and get:

groupadd: GROUP is not a valid group name

but when i make the name lowercase, it adds. I can add GROUP to a RH7.2 box with no problems...

what am I doing wrong?

thanks!

Why not use group instead than GROUP ?
Anyway it seems that my groupadd can't add a GROUP.

im moving users and groups over from another machine. Not many users so i thought id do it by hand rather than cut n paste the passwd, group, and shadow files.

the groupnames on the RH box are in caps.

i dont think it matters, i think the UID/GID is what counts, but i just wanted to know.

anyone have any ideas?

thnks again
