Shutdown when run BOOTSTRAP.SH

Dear Gentoo users,
I had installed some serveres on this great system, but now I have really strange problem.

Everything is ok, ISO image burned, booted, partitions, chroot... and then run bootstrap.sh, everything is downloaded (bootstrap.sh -f) and then compiling software.

When compiling BINUTILS, after creating Makefile, computer, without any error or message in logs (emerge.log too), normaly shutdown (like someone push-off the button on case).

I really try it do install gentoo x-TIMES, so it isn't accident...

Now I try boot to memtest, but everything looks allright.

What can it be? Can someone help me?

What processors do these machines have? I would check your CFLAGS to make sure they are not too agressive or for the wrong instruction set. Just an idea. Hope this helps.

Hi I had same experience: bootstrap shutdown my laptop after say, 1 hour of compiling. Both times during compilation of glibc-2.3.3.

Figured acpi was the bad guy, so I booted with the live cd with options:
gentoo acpi=off

(this option is not listed but it is passed to the livecd kernel).
This worked fine, now I can leave the laptop on at night to make nice stuff : )

Specs: laptop Medion MD6100 Laptop (dutch "Aldi Laptop)
P4 2.6 GHz etc etc.

Indeed, acpi is probably the problem, although turning acpi off may not always work.

I to have a laptop which turns off when compiling glibc (not during bootstrap, but that's not really important). A common problem with laptops is heating. And compiling produces a lot of heat.
So if it still doesn't work after turning acpi off, try to manually interrupt the compiling process regularly and let the laptop settle for a while. (CTRL-Z and fg)

A better fix, off course, is to fix the cooling system. But that can be a hardware problem (as it was in my case)

I hope you can get through the install. After that you should install acpi and configure it correctly, so you system will not get to hot.
