i want to set up a MythTV PVR box using NFS mounts for all the media files from my file server
over a 100 megabit network is this feasible? |

I don't see why it shouldn't be. I've never used MythTV -- is it something u install on top of a distro like gentoo, or does it have its own kernel? If it is just an app that runs on top of another distro, then you just have to make sure that you include NFS in your kernel, and emerge nfs-utils (just emerge -s nfs for the correct package name, I forget which exactly).
Possibly your biggest worry would be network bandwidth, but you'll never know till you try! I'd be interested to know how things go -- keep us posted _________________ But the situation seemed to call for witty repartee. "Huh?" I said. |

I play all my music (.flac) and ripped dvd's (full .vob) over a 100mb connection with MythTV and NFS. Works fine.
THe only thing I haven't tried is TV recordings and/or Live TV.. But i suspect recordings would work OK. LiveTV might be too much to ask though as it's pretty disc speed intensive (haven't tried, just threorizing) |
