I was just wondering is it possible to get that game work on Linux? I don't have the game yet, so before getting it I'd like to know whether I can even play it or not. I have Wine, but no WineX. Grim Fandango seems to work (for some people, not me unfortunately) with Wine, so I quess it could be technically possible to get Discworld work as well.

If you do get it to work. Could you please post your results in the following thread:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=154708&highlight=

Its a general howto for adventure games which I have started. I'd like to see it grow and have users add info about getting certain adventure games to run.

Well, could any of you solve my problem with Grim Fandango? The game seems to work just fine, but I can see only the upper-left corner of the game screen. It's really weird. After quitting I have to change the resolution of my screen (in fact, I don't usually quit, but kill the program, because I can't see the menu, which makes the phenomena much more acceptable).

Nah. The game works fine until the menu is supposed to appear. Then it just stays idle. And by "fine" I mean it reserves about 700MB of RAM. This game is supposed to work with WineX, but since I only have the regular Wine, I can't test (or play) it.

There is DOS based version on the discworld II cds and it plays well with dosemu.
At least I played it with dosemu 1.1.99. The only problem I had, was when I had to change cds. But luckily you only have to change them once.

Hope this is true, I could swear I played it on linux...

Dosbox claims to support it as well (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/comp_list.php?letter=D). But I haven't actually tried it yet myself...

i tried it with dosbox and it does work, but horribly slow, even
after upping the cpu cycles and skipping frames.

i will try it with dosemu and report back.

*update* it fails trying to find a vesa video mode.

probably due to lack of configuration on my part, but con-
figuring dosemu appears to be a cumbersome process, so i
will not look into that right away.

*another update*

WOO! i got it to work with sound (hardly any delay) and such in dosbox-cvs!!!

here's my config:
