Hi,

does anyone know how to get this scanner working under Gentoo 2004.0, Kernel 2.4.25 ?

A sane-find-scanner detects it at /dev/sub/scanner0

a scanimage-L says:

gt68xx:/dev/usb/scanner0 is a Mustek BearPaw 1200 CU flatbed scanner

Does anyone know what to do now ?
I am a Linux newbie and have never used SANE before.
I am working under KDE now, anything special to do here (maybe there is an XSANE or so ?) ?

Thanks so much !

I'm not sat at my Gentoo box at the moment, but I have the exact same scanner and I got it working. I'll do my best to point you in the right direction...

There is a directory called sane.d or something, which contains loads of conf files. Find that. I think it's /etc/sane/conf.d or something, but I could well be and probably am wrong. Anyway. Find that directory. Somewhere in there is a file called gt68xx.conf. Hell, just run a
Code:
locate gt68xx.conf

and find it that way, that's probably easier. You need to edit that file and uncomment the override line for the Medion 9458 scanner. It's about halfway down as I recall.

After that you need to find a file called eplus2k.usb. It's the firmware for the scanner. If you have the Windows driver CD for the scanner, it's on there somewhere. You need to copy that to /usr/share/sane/something_or_other/gt68xx/ or something. There should be a directory like that. Put the firmware in there. If you can't find the right dirctory, just bung it anywhere and then put the correct path in the firmware line in the gt68xx.conf file.

You might need some kind of hotplug script to get the scanner recognised at boot and any time you plug or unplug it, and to make sure it has the right permissions, otherwise only root will have access to it.

Sorry if all this is a bit vague, but like I say - I'm not at my box right now. Like I say though, I have the exact same scanner rigged and working right. If you can't figure it out from my rather rambling instructions, then take a look at http://www.sane.org or whatever it's called, or send me a PM and tell me how far you've got.
