It is easy to apply myself by just adding the patch to the ebuild. However I believe that many Gentoo users would like to have this option as a USE flag or something similar.

It looks great and is very simple to add.

I see... Well I like this in the normal Gentoo/Portage. It is a nice feature addon and I haven't seen anything tha breaks with it yet.

Hey Angrybob, I'm running Gnome 2.6 with GTK+2.4 from BMG. How do I get the patch incorporated into GTK+2.4??

Just add the patch file to your ebuild. I am not using BMG, but the normal Gentoo. I edited the gtk+-2.4.0.ebuild to include this:
Code:
epatch ${FILESDIR}/gtk+-2.4.0-menushadow.patch
Then just re-emerge it. Then you need to restart your gtk+ applications for the change to come through.

And don't forget to put the patch file in the /usr/portage/x11-libs/gtk+/files (or equivalent in BMG)

just do what Gatak said... maybe the BMG builds only had it in Gtk 2.2, I certainly remember playing with that patch before xmas though
