kdevelop and console program

Hi,
After using vim and gdb for debugging my code i am looking for an IDE and guess kdevelop was the first to pick up. Firing up kdevelop(version 3.0.2) a nice interface came up and i opened my c program.

But to my dismay the 'Build' menu is disabled. I guess i need to make a new project to compile my plain c program. However i dont want that fancy stuff like Makefiles etc., instead i just want to compile my small c program and debug it.
is that possible in kdevelop? any pointers?
