Hello

I was just wondering if there is a mirror site in new zealand, at all, that has all the gentoo distfiles?

Since my ISP has a 5Gb cap on all international traffic, thats why i'm looking for a national one.

Say there is one, how do i set portage to download from that one all the time instead of connecting to ibiblios random DNS address?

Thanks, Pudd.

Hey puddpunk. I'm in exactly the same place as you (Paradise cable 5gb cap) and would love to see a mirror aswell. :)

There is a local rsync mirror, but not a distfiles one that I know of. If someone knows of one, or would like to set one up I/we :) would be VERY grateful.

Where in New Zealand do you live? I'm in Auckland!

your probebly on JetStream, which is 400mb/month. Thats ANY traffic.

I have JetStart, which is unlimited traffic at a slower speed, but we are acutally limited 5Gb international traffic/month, then like 50c / mb after that. im not sure...

Oh ok. I'm on Paradise cable (256kb up, 128kb down) and have a 5 gig cap total - although national traffic uses less. (E.g. 10mb national = only 1mb used)

Distfiles:
----------
http://gazza.citylink.co.nz/gentoo/

Rsync:
--------
ftp://debian.attica.net.nz/gentoo-portage/

To name a couple  Problem is that they dont sync with ibiblio.org as often as they could, so if you want to stay updated, you will usually be downloading from an off shore server.

I have found another mirror if anyone needs:

Sync: rsync://linux.citylink.co.nz/gentoo-portage

Distfiles: ftp://linux.citylink.co.nz/gentoo

Have fun...

Also don't forget Jetstreamgames.

distfiles: ftp://ftp2.jetstreamgames.co.nz/gentoo
sync: rsync://ftp2.jetstreamgames.co.nz/gentoo-portage

Also:
Change your dsl username to user@jetstreamgames.co.nz and use any password. While you are connected in this manner you only have access to a handful of servers (including the above), but as fast as dsl can handle. You might want to use 203.96.91.1 as your dns server.
