Hi,

I need some help installing gentoo linux 2004.0 on my IBM ThinkPad A20m.
This will be my first time on it, and I guess I'll need advice from the gurus.
Someone could help me.

Thx

My advice would be to read through the Installation Handbook. Thoroughly. If you have specific questions afterwards, feel free to ask here -- there are lots of folks who can help.

I've already read the Handbook, and the installation process was successfull.
But I need help about USE and portage, maybe an example can open my eyes to this new world :-D
Who have a make.conf, use, and kernel config to compare with mine and make some improvements to my installation.

Thx for helping me

As daveb suggested read the intresting manuals from the documentation section.

I'm using a IBM T40p with 2.6.8-gentoo-r3 sources, nptl enabled and 2.6 headers (patched with alsa 1.06, 20040816 acpi and the apic shutdown patch for ibm's) My compiler flags are set conservatively and my use flags too.

make.conf:
Code:

Just install what you need with the support (USE) you need and you'll be fine. If you like to play performance or newest version junkie there are lot's of pals that can give you lot more aggressive settings than mine.
Depending on the time to mark gcc3.4 testing/stable and what I heard I might give it a try. But mostly my machine runs the stable branch with some execptions.
